CWG- Who Saved the Games?

We can justifiably be proud of the grand success of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. Great effort indeed-perhaps for the first time in our country, in such maginitude. But when I read that there was only one rehearsal done and that too with sample participants, that some of the props were put up for the first time at the opening ceremony, it was clear that professionalism had little to do with the success of the ceremony. Also, that the game survived all the possible threats from all sorts of terrorist gangs in our country, is a great wonder! Delhi must surely thank its guardian Djinns for deciding to save its honour!

Shashi Tharoor - the ideal next Governor for Kashmir

Why Shashi Tharoor is the ideal next Govenor for Jammu & Kashmir? Because 1) His new wife will see to it that he does not do any harm to the Kashmiris. 2) He is from Kerala and his wife is from Kashmir- so this couple is a living example of Kashmir embracing the rest of India with open arms. 3) With his proven charm over the western diplomats/leaders, Shashi Tharoor will be able to present the Indian side of the Kashmir story to the world with great success. I am sure there would be quite a number of other reasons- Readers, please add to this list.

Media double talk A ll should be aware of the game being played by the media. If you watch CNN-IBN, you will easily spot the game. On the one hand they are all deeply hurt because of the price control on petroleum products the oil companies ' bleed to death'. The moment the government frees the prices they start interviewing aam admi to record how difficult life is going to be with such steep hike in transportation and other costs. Of course their job is to create news one way or thewther, which they are apparantly doing very well. But may not be taken in with their priorities.

Heard in the Classroom

Student: Sir, I want to do research on sweat equtiy? Could I approach Ms.Pushkar for guidance? Professor: Zaroor!==================================================================ir Student: Sir, I have a solution for the Kashmir problem. Why not give it on a 100 year lease to Pakistan? Most of the extreamists cannot have any objection as they have all along been showing great affinity to Pakistan. Pakistan will only be happy as there would be no more need to direct and fund all sorts of subversive activity in Kashmir. As for us, we would be saving hundreds of crores of rupees by withdrawing our troops from there and that money can perhaps be well used for some welfare prorgrammes. After a few years , perhaps not more than five years, the Kashmiri people will realise the foolishness as they would not get the type of opportunities for their well being as they were used to when part of our country. Then there would be great demand from them to terminate the lease and come back to Ind...
