How to deal with Swamies

1. Any swamy found having disproportionate amount of money allegedly received by way of donations should be tried under POTA(if that Act still exists). A hard terrorist extorts money using a gun : a swamy does the same thing instilling fear/awe in the name of God. There is no merit in a swamy defending himself telling that the money had come unsolicited. A drug peddler cannot escape punishment on the plea that he had not solicited the business from anyone! 2. Why not rating be made compulsory for all swamies who possess wealth ( other than inherited wealth)in excess of say Rs.1 crore? The rating panel can be a mix of say erudite persons and finance/law professionals. The rating would then help common men stop worshipping crooks. These are only some thoughts.

Wish I were a train!

Wish I were a train Running on One rail God The other love With compartments Full of all sorts of people Good, bad and ugly I carry them all Roaring all the way Through the thick of rain Under the scorching sun Hooting and shouting And roaring to the winds! ---------------- -------------- --Venugopal

Ph.D

Girl's father shouted angrily : "Rascal, you had told me that the boy is Ph.D. Now I find that he is working at Pizz Hut!!!" Marriage broker: "I always speak truth. PHD means Pizza Hut Delivery!"

IOB- a great buy

Indian Overseas Bank appears to be a good buy at sub 130. Its price had not appreciated like some other banks mainly because of poor operational performance of late. The present chairman of IOB seems determined to weed out some of the inefficiencies. Now some essentially useless banks are quoting above IOB which has a robust presence in south India and a sound and loyal clientele. Concious of this it is being accumulated by knowledgeable parties. It should be a good buy for a hundered percent appreciatin within a year. --Venugopal

Stock Market and Onion Prices

Whenever the mood in the market is very bad, that is the time the prices move up. This is particularly true when the base economy is sound. The stock prices have not fallen because of the price of onion or beans going up! Does anyone believe that there would be famine if the vegetable prices go up! The rich are surely not hurt- the really poor anyway rarely get to have any vegetables. The vegetable markets will correct eventually and those who sold out of fear would be the real losers. The savvy ones are accumulating as it is only a few years before our companies are going to be major global players. The prices have very little time to catch up if they continue to fall now! ---Venugopal

Marking to Market Our Lives

I was wondering on how much we can learn from the stock market things. Take the daily marking to market system. If only we could settle all our thoughts/worries /desires etc. on a daily basis by marking them to the latest realities and closing out all stubborn positions, how wonderful our lives would be! Let us at the end of each day, pat ourselves on the back for our good work done and regret and dabble in self pity for our blunders -but ensure that all positions stand closed out fully. Then each day would be a free new day, without any past baggages --nothing to worry about-no regrets or self-pity, no need to make any overt or covert efforts to show one's achievements/talents---!. Life would then be like a soldier's on the warfront who lives life by each day and fully enjoys the spoils of each day! Like what they said in the Bible -' God has given this day- let us rejoice and be glad in it' ---Venugopal Unni

Capital Market Participants

Have you ever wondered why there is a sort of unconcious urge for capital market participants to use sexist words on one pretext or the other? For instance , technical analysts seem to relish using words like necklines, penetration etc. And today I read in the newspaper that the Executive Director of SEBI, Mr.Vaidyanathan has commented that 'MFs tend to have an incestuous relation with fund rating agencies'. !!! Any Freudian angle? --Venugopal

The Time to Invest is now!

Why the markets tanked? ----It is just profit taking led mainly by FIIs. Will they redeploy funds back in the US, now that the economy is recovering? Not a chance yet. It will take quite sometime before their confidence levels rise to that level. Once bitten, several times shy! So what should an investor do? ----Our markets have seen many price rises, scams and terrorist hits- what happened other than some short time blips? The same is happening now- just blips. This is an opportune time to invest in solid businesses. The India story is here to stay. The India story is not dependent on any white man's views or imaginations. It is a natural long cyclic outcome. Remember that less than four hundered years back when Akbar ruled, these western country diplomats had to wait for long to get an appointment in Delhi! --- Venugopal

FOMIL and FODIN Policies

It is quite likely that many would be brides get terrified at the thought of dealing /living with their would be mothers in law. At the same time the would be mothers in law are all possibly deep within them worried on how and when the bahu would eventually plot their ruin. I intend to sell some insurance policies specially designed to deal with these perils. A propective bride can buy FOMIL POLICY as protection against the fear of mother in law. The doting mother of an eligible bachelor can go in for a FODIL POLICY The young man can take a SAS BAHU POLICY and ensure peaceful sleep! Those seeking franchise may send in their request to this blog . Others with insight into these things can kindly help with their views on the appropriate compensation plans etc. ----Venugopal Unni
